Freqeuently Asked Questions

WHO CAN APPLY
I have just completed my general secondary education. I am Matura / GCE / Abitur / IB / … holder. May I apply to this program?
MA Program in International Economics is a graduate course. You may apply only if you possess a degree that entitles you to graduate education in the country which issued your degree (mostly called Bachelor (B.A. / B.Sc.), possibly also HND (Higher National Diploma), Licence, and others). Candidates who completed their secondary education or those who received tertiary education but were not granted an undergraduate diploma do not qualify for graduate education in Poland. Foreigners may enroll in undergraduate studies only if they speak Polish as only selected undergraduate courses are offered in English.

I am a B.Sc. but I majored in a field different than economics.
It is advisable that you contact the head of the program, dr Andrzej Cieślik and describe your educational situation and plans. In justified cases a preparatory year is applied. The cost of the extension year is the same as each year of study.

I majored in Management / Marketing.
Please note the difference between management-related and economic courses. Program curricula in management may cover substantially fewer mathematical and statistical issues which are presumed to be a basic knowledge kit of applicants to International Economics. You may be assigned additional catch-up courses (valid also if some years elapsed since your graduation). See also the question & answer above.

Is it possible to transfer my credits to your program?
Transfer students as a rule are not accepted. For decisions in exceptionally non-standard cases please turn to the head of the Program dr. Andrzej Cieślik.

Please assist me on how I can apply for undergraduate studies in Polish.
Foreigners may enroll in undergraduate studies in Polish only after they study Polish for one year in one of the study centers selected by the Ministry of Education. In order to apply please refer to the website of the School of Polish Language for Foreigners of Łódź (Lodz) University.

FINANCIAL ISSUES
How much is tuition fee?
Annual tuition fee for this program approximates 2000 EUR. The top 3/8 of candidates in the overall admission ranking who are Polish citizens will be offered complete tuition waivers.

What are the payment deadlines and how should I pay?
By default students are required to pay 3600 PLN by September 15 for the forthcoming fall semester and 3600 PLN by the end of January for the spring semester. Students who wish to do so may transfer the whole year tuition (7200 PLN) by September 15 the previous academic year. The standard payment mode is a wire transfer. See this link for payment details.

May students pay tuition rates in installments?
You may apply to the Vice-Dean for students' affairs for permission to pay your fees in installments. As a standard, consent is given to split the semester fee into two. Interests are added for the periods of delay at the interest rate set by the Ministry of National Education (11.5% per annum).

I have a difficult financial situation, can I obtain a reduction?
Successful candidates may apply for reductions to the Vice-Dean for students affairs.

I cannot pay my fees. Please cancel my tuition for this semester.
Fees are not canceled or suspended. The Dean can meet a decision to partially exempt a student from a tuition rate upon a well-documented cause of extraordinary importance and only with the agreement of the departmental Students' Association. However, that is a really seldom exception. According to the university regulations, admitted candidates who fail to meet the payment dates are considered resigned and students whose tuition fees remain unpaid for more than 3 months are discontinued. Please note that the top 3/8 of accepted candidates who are Polish citizens are offered tuition exemptions.

How do I apply for Warsaw University scholarship?
Warsaw University offers no scholarships; neither to foreign nor to Polish students. Please see the Financial Aid section for a selection of scholarship-awarding institutions in Poland.

Can a student work full time and pursue this study?
MA in International Economics is organized as a full-time program. Full-time jobs are strongly discouraged. However, classes are grouped so that one or two working days remain free. Part-time jobs may be suitable, although they may adversely affect your grades. Secure enough time for independent study especially during your first year.

Can you offer part-time job opportunities to students?
There is work for those who want to work in Warsaw. The best way of learning about that is being in the right place at the right time, or having friends who will recommend you somewhere. Otherwise try one of the following: Studenckie Biuro Karier (Students Career Office), Erasmus Students Network (a meeting point for short-term international students at WU) 'Razem' - Samorząd Studentów WNE UW ('Together' - Faculty of Economics Students Association) - usually some of them are on duty at the FES venue; They are very helpful. Their website is http://www.razem.waw.pl (Polish). There is also a steady demand for native speakers at numerous language schools in Warsaw which usually run evening classes.

I order to do that apply for a residence permit from the Mazovian Voivodship office, Immigration Unit (ul. Długa 5, Warsaw http://intl.mazowieckie.pl/en). However, if you change your mind after fees have been paid, fees will not be returned.
